About this Project:
The Gym and Fitness Suite at St Benedict’s is an exceptionally popular and much-used resource. All our students are inducted into the gym through curriculum PE sessions and taught the importance and safety of Strength training for sport and general wellbeing.
The Gym is used continually throughout the school day in curriculum PE sessions as well as multiple Strength and Conditioning sessions before, during and after school each day, run by our 2 fully qualified Strength and Conditioning Coaches.
In order to enhance further this provision we are seeking to raise funds to buy additional training equipment which would be of enormous benefit to all our aspiring young sportspeople.
Why Your Support Matters
"Over the 12 years I have taught at the school, the Strength and Conditioning Programme and use of the gym have grown exponentially.
From my first years of students using the space for casual gym sessions and the 1st XV rugby having 1-2 strength sessions a week, the use of the space has expanded to the fully functioning programme that we see today. The gym now accommodates 18 planned Strength and Conditioning sessions per week for boys and girls in all sports from Form 3 to Upper 6, multiple PE sessions where students are inducted into the gym and taught how to use it safely and effectively as well as how to create their own programmes, and rehabilitation sessions for students who have been injured, giving them the opportunity to return fully fit to sport as quickly and safely as possible. We see an average of 77 pupils per day walk into an S&C session, not including PE.
All this has evolved without any significant addition or change to the gym over these 12 years. Developing our Gym into a centre of performance will allow us to run more and higher quality sessions for the students to develop physically."
